Welcome
Greetings from New Haven, and the Yale University Department of Chemistry! As physical chemists, the Schmuttenmaer Research Group is interested in a variety of topics, spanning diverse fields of science. Our research projects include the following:
- The study of electron transfer from dye molecules into solar energy devices
- Investigating the material properties of nanoparticles and nanotubes
- Characterizing the vibrational modes of crystallized molecules
- Measuring terahertz optical activity of metamaterials and molecules
In essence, we investigate systems that often require an understanding of both bulk material and molecular properties. Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy, the specialty of the Schmuttenmaer Research Group, is a formidable technique that allows us to cover this wide range of inquiry. We hope that this website is a useful resource for information on THz spectroscopy and the research we perform.
